EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Equal Employment Opportunities are the bedrock of our country, they ensure that all Americans have a fair and equal chance to apply for and be unbiasedly considered for any job they are qualified for.
Over the 25 years I’ve been in this business, it’s been my observation that often in the public service sector this is not the case. I don’t think it’s a secret that if you want a job with the city, county, or a special utility district “You gotta know somebody”. Of the 17 fulltime employees at this district, I have been able to confirm all but two are caucasion, and those two I cannot confirm their race one way or the other.
You shouldn’t have to know someone that can “Get you in” a public service job. It’s also no secret that these jobs are typically given to Caucasian males, and this too is unfair. It shouldn’t matter where you were born, the color of your skin, your sexual orientation, or religious leanings. You should feel confident that when you apply for a job you are qualified for you will be given fair and equal consideration.
Last year while perusing the Coal Creek Utility Districts website there were links that took me to personnel facebook pages that had content that should never be associated with any public entities public image. My complaints led to the removal of this content, but the fact that it was linked to the districts public site at the very least reflects a lackadaisical attitude towards discrimination that I find intolerable. A Commissioner should never allow such bigotries, prejudices, and bias within the district. (See images)
